Why weren't we given better memories?

  3. specificity. exactness of texture, sounds, words said. . . we would live such different lives if our memories were more complete, more like our in-the-moment perception. we would be smarter, able to remember facts better, perhaps able to avoid danger or negative situations because we'd remember more vividly the consequences of past mess-ups. maybe we wouldn't even have the same desires we do (sensuality, appetite) because we could almost really relive past experiences and be sated that way.

    i'm sure there's much more to this potential that i'm not thinking of, but for now it just stemmed from a frustration--or a curiosity--at why i can't remember what i had for dinner two nights ago or more accurately recall the sensations of sitting in someone's passenger seat on a summer-setting evening.
